Dear Students and Parents,
We are off to a wonderful start of the school year. I am really enjoying getting to know your children and working with the wonderful staff at the Marshall!
I wanted to give you a little bit of an insight into my background. I grew up in Monroe, Connecticut. I graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Math and then moved to Massachusetts to attend Simmons College for my Masters in Teaching. I worked in Natick Public Schools at a 5-8 middle school for 9 years as a 6th grade Math/Social Studies teacher then as a 7th grade Math teacher. Last year, while working on my administrators license and Masters in Education Administration, I was a 7th and 8th grade Math interventionist teacher at a middle school in Waltham. I love animals and the Patriots (Bill Belichick is a Wesleyan alum!).
After school activities began this week and the students were so excited to participate in Minecraft, cooking, volleyball, and more! Progress Reports will be issued on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 through the Aspen Family Portal. If you requested a paper copy of the Progress Report it will be issued the following school day during homeroom period, Wednesday, October 23, 2019. If you have questions or cannot access the Family Portal: email portalhelp@billericak12.com .
REMINDER: There is no school on Columbus Day - Monday, October 14.

PTO Pasta Night
Pasta night, which was originally scheduled for October 10, is now scheduled for November 13th.
Halloween Dance:
Get ready for the Halloween Dance coming on Friday, October 25 from 6-8pm. Tickets will not be sold at the door so buy your tickets ahead of time! See the flyer for more information.
The Late Bus:
A late bus is provided on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week from September 30 to December 11 for the fall session, to provide transportation for students in a supervised program after school. The late bus departs the Marshall Middle School approximately 3:10 PM. The Late Bus Routes are published on the school website. Please review the bus routes and choose the best route for your child.
Yearbooks
Yearbook Cover Contest: Submit a yearbook cover design to this year’s cover competition. Cover must be submitted to Mr. Lutinski by Friday, October 18th. Voting will take place via email after submissions are collected. Please see Mr. Lutinski in S22 for more details (flyer attached).

The cost is $21 and will be delivered in school to students on the last week of the school year. Orders will end on Friday, January 3rd. Please see Mr. Lutinski in S22 if you unable to purchase online and would like to buy a yearbook. Students in all grades may purchase a yearbook. Here is the paper form for yearbook orders.
Camp Bournedale – Grade 6
This year 6th-grade students are invited to attend Camp Bournedale, a four day, three night Science Camp in Plymouth, MA. We will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, October 16th at 6:00 pm in the Marshall Middle School Auditorium. During the school day, students will also receive a similar presentation to get them excited about our trip. The program director will be on hand for both presentations in order to answer any questions that students or parents may have. We will also be asking for volunteers to help chaperone this trip and will have a sign-up sheet at the presentation. See presentation and information about the trip.

Dear Students and Parents,
As parents, encouraging regular school attendance is the first step in preparing your child for success in school and in life. Just two (2) absences per month add up to twenty (20) days absent in a school year, which is more than 10% of the school year. Tardiness and dismissals also lead to missing class time that becomes harder to make up as students schedules become more complex in middle school. While we do understand that some absences are unavoidable, we ask that you continue to support your child in attending school each and every day. We want your kids with us in school.
We received two important letters to distribute to parents regarding attendance from Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Superintendent Timothy Piwowar. Please take a moment to review these letters as we hope that they will support you, as parents, as your child progresses through middle and high school.
I hope that you will continue to make school attendance a priority, which promotes better grades, healthy habits, and leads to success in school. I am including our attendance call procedure in this weekly update as a reminder. We appreciate all you do to help maintain good attendance for each student.
If your child will be absent from school, please call the attendance line before 7:30am (978-528-8682) or email (marshallabsent@billericak12.com). State your child’s first and last name, spell the last name, give the grade and team, and give a brief reason for the absence. After 7:30am, please call the school office at 978-528-8670.

If a call or email is not received, the school will call the parent or guardian informing them of their child’s absence using an automated calling system.

The sixth grade is going to raffle off six 5 pound Hersey chocolate bars to raise funds for Camp Bournedale. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets are being sold during lunch.

Dear Students and Parents,
The sign up form for after school activities will go home next week with students and will also available on-line at our school website. Please take advantage of these wonderful programs run by the Marshall staff. We are so fortunate to have such a variety of programs for our students to experience. Programs are filled on a first come first serve basis.
One program I would like to highlight is Study Club. This is an opportunity for students to receive extra help, homework help, or just a quiet place to complete homework. We offer Study Club in each grade level. Study Club is a program that you can sign up for season or utilize as a drop in and attend on the days needed.
Students must be involved in a school sponsored activity to stay after school. At no time are students who stay after school allowed to leave the school grounds and return in order to take the late bus home. It is expected that all students who stay after school remain in a supervised area until the late bus departs campus.
The late bus is provided on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week during the fall season from October to December. The late buses provide transportation for students in a supervised program after school and departs the Marshall Middle School at approximately 3:10 PM. The Late Bus Routes are on our school website. Please take a moment to review the late bus schedule and let your child know what late bus you would like him/her to be on and the bus stop as the bus stops are different from the morning bus routes.

Robotics Team
6th and 7th Grade Cross Country Team
Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain such as dirt or grass. Marshall coaches are Mr. Hagan and Ms. Brown Practices are Monday to Friday until 3:15 each day. Team members are expected to attend 3 out of 5. Schedule and Information
